Goal =“Engagement” The hope is that you walk away feeling supported and safe. With young children it is playful and interactive. Parents are asked to complete a lengthy intake so we have additional time to build a relationship with your child. Teens and adults can expect reassuring conversation and the start of exploring change.
What is guided play therapy?
Children process feelings and develop problem-solving skills through play. It is their voice to resolve issues and grow. We will utilize play to help aid in your child’s therapeutic process.
If my child attends, do I participate in session too?
Together we will determine the best approach to your child’s needs. We believe that parents play an important role in the therapy process and value their participation. Some sessions will involve parents observing, interacting, sharing or listening. At times, parents will be asked to wait in the waiting area as a child processes independently.
How do you use “nature” in the therapy process?
Old Milford provides riverfront, parks, bike trails and hiking trails walking distance from the office. There is a serenity when we are absent from technology, breath fresh air and move our bodies. Our focus shifts from our feelings to our surrounding.
